Sold- Patricia McCormick

Title: Sold
Author:  Patricia McCormick
Source: SYNC Audio
Series: Standalone
Rating: 4/5

Goodreads Summary:

Sold into prostitution, Lakshmi lives a nightmare and gradually forms friendships with the other girls that enable her to survive in this terrifying new world. Then the day comes when she must make a decision to risk everything for a chance to reclaim her life.

Lakshmi lives in a small village in Nepal with her mother, baby brother and her step father. She tells her step father she would like a job in the city in order to be able to send money home to her family. She believes she is getting a job with a wealthy family as a maid but she is sold into the sex traffic of India at the age of twelve.

The story follows her story from the time in the village until she reaches the city where she realizes what has happened to her. The ending is a little bitter sweet. She has been through so much and I wished that she would have found a way to escape the life before she got into it.

This story breaks my heart because children are sold into the sex traffic industry everyday and even with the preventative measures put in place and the amount of people trying to save these innocent children they are still many more who are still in the trade and have to endure unimaginable things. The part that really upsets me is the people who come to these brothels to take advantage of the children.

The narrator really captured the raw emotion of the Lakshmi and how she survived. The author does not try to cover the shame and horror these children have to endure. I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading the other book I own by this author.

Fangirl- Rainbow Rowell

Title: Fangirl
Author: Rainbow Rowell
Source: From the publisher
Series: Standalone
Rating: 5/5

Goodreads Summary:

Cath is a Simon Snow fan.

Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan . . .

But for Cath, being a fan is her life — and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.

Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

Every book rainbow Rowell writes I fall more and more in love with her writing. This book was amazing. Cath is obsessed with Simon Snow and she writes fan fiction about Simon Snow. Her sister, Wren used to write with her sister but since they have started college she does not want to anything to do with Simon Snow anymore. Cath is having a hard time adjusting to college life and so she surrounds herself with Simon Snow.

I have so many feelings for these characters. Cath and Wren had a love/hate relationship with each other. Wren wants to forget about Simon Snow and her twin sister Cath wants to live in the world of Simon Snow. Cath's new roommate is the complete opposite of Cath. Her friend Levi is always in their room, trying to bring Cath out of her shell.

I loved everything about this book. I loved that it dealt with college. It is such a big step to take in life and I was glad this book looked at how hard and awkward that time can be along with the issues that Cath and Wren have to deal with there parents.

I loved this book so much I cannot put into writing how much I love it. I cannot wait until this is out for everyone to read it.
